January 2009 is the Neighbourhood Day marked by
the sharing of Noah's Pudding. Sharing Noah’s
pudding is a symbolic representation of the
unity and essential relationship of humans to
one another and to their Creator. Preparing the
Noah’s pudding is a common practice among Muslim
and Christian peoples around the Mediterranean.
Due to the holiday period during Christmas & new
year, Neighbourhood Day was celebrated on 9
February 2009. The event took place at Serenity
Reception in Somerton. Over a hundred guests
attended the program which commenced with open
remarks from Emre Celik, General Coordinator of
the AIS.
There were prayers offered to the victims of the
Victorian Bushfires and those
that lost their lives in the Middle East crisis.
Reverend Tony
Johnson made a prayer on behalf of the
Strathmore Uniting Church and Imam Ali-Kursat
Turgut, offered his prayer on be half
of Thomastown Mosque.
The main speakers of the event were Reverend Rob
Brown, General Secretary of the Uniting Church
Synod and Huseyin Koc, Social and Religious
Affairs Attaché of the Consul General's Office
of the Republic of Turkey. The program continued
with the traditional serving of Noah's Pudding
and Sufi Music.
Muhsin Canbolat, General Coordinator of Serenity
Foundation said, "We are happy to host such a
meaningful event this evening and look forward
to hosting many more community events here at
Serenity Reception".
